Note: In 1865, Charles William Dowdeswell owned framemaker's and print shop in Chancery Lane (Walter Crane, An Artist’s Reminiscences, 1907). Opened a gallery at 133 New Bond Street in 1878.Later joined by son Walter in business. Gallery closed in 1912 and C.W. Dowdeswell library was sold at Christies 7-9 February 1912 (sale catalogue in NAL). Two further sales held in 1920 at Puttick and Simpsons, London.
